An Aphrodite Lesbian is a lesbian who prefers affection or interaction that is more sexual in nature. It is the sexual compliment to bambi lesbian. Its vincian counterpart is Eros gay.

Etymology

Named after Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of love, attraction, sexuality, and beauty.

Pronunciation

/aa-froh-dy-tee-lez-bee-an/

Definitions

  • a lesbian who has a more sexual nature - LGB Stims, 2020[1]
  • A lesbian who prefers sexual acts and affection, or who centers sexuality in their relationships - Κορακι MOGAI, 2021[2]

History

It is unknown who first coined Aphrodite lesbian, though it was at some point during or before 2020.

On an unknown date, an Aphrodite lesbian flag was featured on the now-deleted Tumblr blog plurgai, though whether it was designed by plurgai is unclear and the original post is lost.

On September 8 2020, Tumblr user LGB Stims created their own Aphrodite lesbian flag. This flag includes a stripe for "yonic desire," or attraction specifically to vulvas, and is tagged as"transmeds safe" and "radfem safe," with "radfem" being a dogwhistle for TERF.[1] As the flag explicitly symbolizes exclusion of trans lesbians, it is considered to be an extremely transphobic symbol.

Two alternative flags were made on August 20 2021 by Tumblr user icarusoblivion and FANDOM user TheNelsonSystem. Both appear to have been coined through the LGBTA Wiki.[3] The symbolism of these flags is unknown, but they appear to be modeled after the original Aphrodite lesbian flag.

On December 5 2021, koraki-mogai on Tumblr created an alternate Aphrodite lesbian flag, specifically in response to the TERF symbolism in the popular flag. The post included a version of the flag with a statue of Aphroditos--Aphrodite with a penis--superimposed over.[2]
