Choicepunk

The choicepunk flag.

Choicepunk is a subculture to describe anyone who has a chosen identity, specifically relating to something people tend to say can't be chosen. This includes gender, sexuality, romantic orientation, alterhumanity, plurality, and so on.

This does not include things such as race, disabilities, disorders, and similar. Those are either not a choice, appropriation, and/or are damaging (such as choosing to disable oneself.) One should not use choicepunk if they are attempting to 'choose' these things.

Listed below are choicepunk identities and subsets. One may also put 'choice' in front of an identity to show that their identity was through willpower.

Choicepunk identities

Genders/xenogenders

  • Cinngender: a term used to describe any gender someone chose to experience/feel.
  • Plasmidic: a term used to describe a cinngender that takes energy to experience, and can be unequipped or reequipped at will.
  • Tonicadic: a term used to describe a cinngender that does not require energy to experience, and can be unequipped or reequipped at will.
  • Vigoradic: a term used to describe a cinngender that is straining and difficult to use, where other genders feel faded when in use. Can be unequipped or reequipped at will.
  • Vaparian: a term used to describe cinngenders that can be 'loaded,' however when they run out, the person is left agender/genderless.
  • Aesthetarian: when one chooses cinngenders that are similar to their unchosen gender/genders.

Attraction-based identities

Other

  • Choicekin: when someone chooses to be otherkin. They usually cannot takeback their choice once it is done, and will likely remain alterhuman from then on.
  • Parogenic: when someone creates a system through metaphysical or thought-based acts. They cannot takeback their choice once it is done.
  • Willogenic: when someones wills a system into existence. This can be choicepunk, and it usually is, however this sometimes is unintentional. They cannot takeback their choice once it is done.
  • Metagenic/Spirigenic: when someones chooses to become a system through spiritual and/or metaphysical acts. They cannot takeback their choice once it is done.

Misunderstanding of choicepunk

Choicepunk is often misunderstood, as there is a misconception that one cannot choose vital parts of their identities, such as gender or plurality. In reality, the mind is shown to be able to do many things simply through willpower. This is seen in the placebo effect (specifically how it effects physical/mental health,) and many other similar experiences the brain may have with creation, choice, and control.

This, of course, does not invalidate those who cannot choose things (such as those who cannot choose their own gender, or cannot choose to be otherkin.) It also does not validate appropriation of race, disabilities, and similar.
