Crowgender

Crowgender is a xenogender for when one loves and connects with crows. The gender may be playful, dark, mysterious, related to label hoarding, a kingender, or simply related to crows in some way. It is especially intended for crowkin and neurodivergent individuals but is not an exclusive gender.

History

Crowgender was first created at some point before June 4 2020, when the first known crowgender flag was posted to Twitter by user murderousCroww, though the source in the tweet appears to be lost and leads to a nonexistent Carrd.[4] It was likely simply a gender relating to crows. It credits the flag to blues moirail.

The first surviving coining of crowgender was on September 25 2020 by Twitter user hollyleaves. This definition simply labelled the gender as a term for someone who loves and connects with crows. The coiner stated that he would prefer the term be used by neurodivergent users, but also said that neurotypicals may also use the label. They coined the first crowgender flag alongside the term.[1]

On October 17 2020, Twitter user cool__cassius independently recoined crowgender as simply "marked by a strong or weak connection to crows!" Jze seemed unaware of the past coining, and also coined a flag alongside the term.[2]

Tumblr user horrorterrorsprites recoined the term and a flag on or before December 10 2020, also seemingly unaware of previous coinings. Unlike past coinings, fae defined it as when a gender "feels like scraps of other genders you like" instead of as specifically related to crows.[3]

The term has frequently been conflated with the faunagender and kingender corvusgender, though the two have separate meanings and history. It is of note that for the most part, most coinings of crowgender apparently occurred without knowledge of past coinings.
