'''Diamoric''', also known as '''adonian''', '''adonic''' and '''cypric''', is a term used by some [[Non-Binary|non-binary]] Individuals to describe their orientation, which does not fit into the similar/opposite gender attraction dichotomy due to being a uniquely non-binary experience. The term does not specify what gender(s) one is attracted to, it only specifies that one is non-binary and experiences attraction in a non-binary specific way.

On June 13, 2016 the term Dionysian was coined by Tumblr user Androgyne-Enjolras (Now Marlowelune)<ref>http://marlowelune.tumblr.com/post/145887394674/jesse-mcree-replied-to-your-post-feuillyadeux</ref>. The term is derived from Dionysus who was historically associated with gender variance. There were some individuals who thought it was rude to use the name of a Hellenistic god. On July 5th there was a poll for an alternate to Dionysian, the options being appellic and diamoric<ref>http://marlowelune.tumblr.com/post/146953154069/non-binary-love-an-update-and-a-poll</ref>. Between June 13th and June 26, 2016 four flags were created by the Tumblr blog Dionysiansuggestion. These flags were all very similar, with all of the having the purple myrtle and the only differences being the color of the top and bottom stripes. Diamoric (formerly called Dionysian) is a word for an orientation, attraction, or relationship that involves at least one Nonbinary person. Either as an orientation for Nonbinary people who's attraction does not fit into the similar/opposite dichotomy due to being a uniquely Nonbinary experience, or as a relationship descriptor for which one or more of the people involved are Nonbinary.

Diamoric can be an orientation on its own or it can be used as an umbrella term to describe a variety of Nonbinary attraction.

Alternate Names

  • Dionysian (formerly)

Etymology

Diamoric comes from the Greek prefix Dia- meaning "passing through" or "going apart" and the Latin word amor, meaning "love".

Diamoric was originally called Dionysian, from Dionysus who was historically associated with gender variance. It was then renamed (and changed from a flag featuring grapes) due to Dionysus being a god in a religion that many currently worship, as well as being closely associated with wine, violence, and sex, making some uncomfortable. "Dionysian" refers to things relating to the deity and is often used by their mosern worshipers.
