Hueco, is a reclaimed slur used against men-loving men, transfeminine and AMAB gender non-conforming people in Guatemala,[1] Chile[2] and possibly other Hispanic countries. The feminine equivalent, Hueca, may also be used against sapphic women and transmasculine people. However, it is generally used to insult women as a whole.

The diminutive "huequito" or "wekito" is also used.

Alternative Names

  • Weko
  • Wekereke
  • Huequereque

Translation

The term "hueco" literally translates as "empty, shallow, hollow, or superficial"[3] among other terms that indicate a lack of substance. This comes from the homophobic stereotype that queer men are usually feminine, and the misogynistic belief that femininity indicates no intelligence or dept within a person.

Pronunciation

"Woo-eh-koh", "Weh-keh-reh-keh", "weh-kah".

Diminutive: "weh-kee-toh".

History

It is unclear when exactly the word hueco became synonymous with achillean, however it's been present on the internet since at least 2014. [4]
