Etymology

While the exact etymology of -lexic is unknown, it is most likely taken from the word lexicon, a word meaning "the vocabulary of a person, language, or branch of knowledge."

Definitions

  • "-lexic / -lexicon: related to [a] word[s] (wordgenders)" - suffixs.crd.co[1]

Many genders coined using the suffix -lexic use the definition "a gender best described by a word"

History

It is unknown when -lexic was coined or who coined it. The suffix appears to have came into usage sometime in 2021, however there appears to be no true coining post, and instead it is believed that one blog simply started using it and others also decided to.

Some incorrectly credit the coining of -lexic to an anon on the blog Neopronouns, however the source for this, while mentioning -lexic as a potential suffix, is for a unreleated concept that appears to eventually use the suffix -lexicon instead.[2]
