Some Demisexuals may choose to further define their orientation in terms of genders they are attracted to (Demiheterosexual, Demibisexual). Others do not find this necessary, or feel that they have enough experiences of sexual attraction to figure out who they’re attracted to.
Definition
The term Demisexual was coined on February 9, 2006 on the AVEN forms by user Sonofzeal, who described the experience of not having "primary" sexual attraction but being capable of "secondary". Primary in this as meaning sexual attraction mostly based on physical attributes and secondary as sexual attraction that only develops upon emotional attraction developing first. Sonofzeal felt neither Asexual nor Allosexual and created the term to more accurately describe needing an emotional bond as a prerequisite to sexual attraction. The term started to gain widespread popularity in 2008 because of AVEN user OwlSaint.
Flags
Two alternate Demisexual flags were created by tumblr user CrimsxnFlxwerz on August 2, 2018. The flags was made in response to some people being uncomfortable with the original flag's black triangle. The redesigned flags itself has the same color scheme, the purple being a shade different. CrimsxnFlxwerz made one flag's triangle take up half the flag and one with a black diamond to replace the triangle entirely.

▲PAGENAME is an Aspec (specifically Ace-spec) orientation where one experiences sexual attraction to a person after they have developed an emotional connection to them. The connection can be romantic, platonic, or some other form of connection. What counts as a "close connection" can vary between Demisexuals. Forming an emotional bond with someone does not mean that one is automatically attracted to said person, as it just means there's now a possibility for one to feel attraction.
It is important to distinguish between typical sexual attraction to friends and romantic partners, and demisexuality. Additionally, it is important to note that demisexuals are not simply choosing to abstain from sexual activity until they know the individual better. Allosexuals are capable of feeling sexual attraction to individuals they do not know very well, though they typically choose not to act on it. Demisexuals are incapable of feeling sexual attraction unless a close relationship is established, though they may still engage in sexual activity with the assumption that attraction will develop at some point.
Demisexual can be a sexual orientation on its own or can be combined with other orientations. For example, one could be demisexual and polysexual (demipolysexual), meaning that when one does experience sexual attraction they can experience it towards multiple genders, but not all genders.
==Etymology==▼
The prefix demi- means "half" or "partial". The prefix is also used in words such as demigod.▼
Demisexual may be considered a type of mesi asexual, greysexual attraction, and aliquasexual attraction. Fraysexual is often described as the "opposite" of demisexual.
Counterparts to demisexual for other forms of attraction include: demiromantic, demiplatonic, demisensual, demialterous, and demiflectic.
