History
Tropicanine was originally coined by mason on April 10th of 2019, under the name Hawaiiaine. However, the term was renamed to tropicanine on November 9th, 2021, at which point the relation to Hawaii was removed from the definition.
Community
Controversy
Before the term was renamed, a user raised concerns about the similarities between Hawaiiaine and the word Hawaiian, citing the idea that it would give white people a venue through which to call themselves Hawaiian. This lead to the renaming of the term as tropicanine.[3]
